Fortnite Ground Game LTM: best strategies, how to win at Ground Game

Fortnite Battle Royale isn't just about the Battle Royale mode. It has Limited Time Modes, or LTMs for short, that change up the game in different ways. Ground Game is one of them and is perhaps the closest that Fortnite ever comes to being like Plunkbat. This guide goes over the rules for Ground Game, as well as providing some small tips to get started playing this temporary mode.

With the game being the global sensation that it is, there's a lot to learn about not only getting that all-important "Victory Royale", but also the changes to the map as the seasons progress, and the challenges you can seek to complete. Head over to our Fortnite guide hub for every single thing you need to get started. Alternatively, you can head back to our Fortnite Limited Time Modes (LTM) for all the possible LTMs in Fortnite.

Ground Game Rules

The key difference here is that there's only a limited number of building materials and ammunition that you can carry. This means you won't see the towers that players will build as soon as they are hit with any weapons, meaning they're more likely to strategically place cover or run for more natural obstacles. These are the limits for the materials in the game mode.

  • Wood: 30
  • Brick: 20
  • Steel: 20

Best Strategies for Ground Game LTM

This mode emphasises the use of natural cover of the map rather than build massive skyscrapers designed to give attacking players a bit of a headache. You'll have a teammate, so try to use that advantage, particularly if you're going around with a friend with voice communications enabled.

Natural cover and good use of any building materials that you have on you is the key to winning the matches. Cover doesn't necessarily mean hills, buildings, and rock formations. It can also be visual cover, that while it doesn't provide any protection from fire, it instead makes it harder for the enemy to see you. Staying high and with a sniper rifle can be a good strategy in this mode because the enemy is far less likely to be able to get behind cover than just building walls everywhere. If you ever come across a Port-A-Fortress though, make sure you snag it up as it provides you with an instant advantage thanks to its superior cover.

Other than that, the same general tips will apply for any other Battle Royale game in Fortnite. You can check out tips for Fortnite vehicles, as well as learn how to maintain your health in our Fortnite healing items guide.
